Improvising two-person scenes can be as easy as having a conversation. The problem is that improvisers can get in their own way and fail to get the laughs that they deserve. If you're struggling with two person scenes, this workshop will get your scene work back on track. By the end of this Two Person Scene Tune Up Workshop, you will be playing with confidence and doing some of your best scene work yet. In this 2.5 hour workshop you will get:

  • Solid feedback that you can apply instantly to your scenework
  • The ability to work one line at a time
  • Lots of reps to build your confidence
  • Notes that will help you build off what you are already doing well

Jimmy Carrane has been teaching and performing improv in Chicago for more than 30 years. He is the host of the Improv Nerd podcast and co-author of Improvising Better: A Guide for the Working Improviser, Improv Therapy and The Inner Game of Improv. He was an original member of The Annoyance Theater and Armando at The iO Chicago. Jimmy has performed in some of Chicago’s most innovative and ground-breaking long-form improv shows, such as “Jazz Freddy” and “Naked” with MAD TV’s Stephanie Weir. Jimmy has taught his award-winning workshops at theaters and festivals around the country, as well as The Second City, Annoyance and iO Chicago. For more information go to his website.

  • The class will start on time. If you need to be late, there's no need to apologize or explain. Please enter the space quietly and take a minute to arrive and take in what's going on. We'll incorporate you as soon as we can.

  • We don't believe that money should stand in the way of you starting your improv journey. If you're interested in a class and cannot afford it, please reach out to us so that we can assist you.
  • Class registrations are subject to close approximately 72 hours before the start of the class, so please sign up early if you're interested! Registrations are final.

  • Please wear comfortable clothes appropriate for light physical activity.
  • The only thing you need to bring to class is a willingness to be brave and participate.
  • Unless otherwise indicated in the class description, the theater opens 15 minutes prior to the start of your class time.

  • One of the most effective ways to learn improv is to watch improv. As long as you are an active student within our community, attendance at shows is free to you. We do ask that if there are paying customers, you give up your seat to accommodate them.

  • All classes and workshops at The Bit are contingent on a minimum number of student registrations.
